A Survey on the Occupational Accidents in Manufacturing Industries


Abstract
This survey was carried out to analyse the occupational accidents by type of industry, cause of accident, working period and age of workers, part of body injured, and accident time in Guro Industrial-site, Youngdeungpo Area. Korea.
The basic data were obtained from the accident records prepared in industries.
The results obtained were as follows;
1. The values of severity rate by type of industry showed 3.5 in wooden toy manufacturing industry, 0.6 in precise machinery industry, 0.4 in printing industry, 0.3 in electric machinery industry and 0.05 in the miscellaneous machinery industry. The average value was 0.3.
2. The values of frequency rate by type of industry were 157.6 in wooden toy manufacturing, 28.8 in precise machinary industry, 20.1 in printing industry, 15.7 in metallic industry, and 11.8 in chemical industry.
3. The average value of incidence rate per 1,000 was 39.9, and the highest value, 135, was indicated in wooden toy manufacturing, the next, 93.8, was in precise machinery industry, and the lowest, 13.1 was in miscellaneous industry.
4. 56.4£¥ of physical impairements due to occupational accidents showed laceration and open wounds, 15.5£¥ burns, 10.8£¥ fractures, 6.8£¥ superficial injuries, and 2£¥ showed dislocations.
5. As far as the part of body injured is concerned, the highest rate, 61.4£¥, was shown in finger, and the lowest, 0.3£¥, was in trunk.
6. Among the causes of occupational accidents, working motion showed the highest rate, 54.1£¥.
7. By size of industry, the small size industry showed higher rate than the large size industry.
8. According to age of workers, the highest rate, 28.7£¥, was shown in under 17 year-old group, and the lowest was in 36-41 age group.
9. According to the working period of workers, the short-term service group showed high incidence rate.
10. The high rate of accident was indicated at the time of 3 hours working in the morning and 1-2 hours working after lunch.
